I'm going through the process of blasting and painting bracketry, pulleys, etc. now.
I've also got a cabinet oven to bake the parts in after paint.
Almost all the aresol paints are an enamel, so baking them will provide a little more durability.
The tough part is going through enough cans to find a sheen you can live with long term.
For black, I ended up with a Krylon Industrial semi-flat. As close to factory after bake that I could find.
Remember, most of this was either dipped or sprayed in bulk from the factory.
