choosing a theme

i have no plans on keeping things original. this is not a restoration. I want a comfortable daily driver.
So I'm looking at steering wheels today and think how can I choose a wheel when I dont know if im going with chrome or brushed or stainless on the rest of the stuff in the cab.
I cant do anything to my grill because im not sure what Im doing with my trim and mirrors.
how did you guys make a plan and stick to it?
Fortunately ive been beating down fires with the basics so I havent had to worry about looks yet. But Ill be done with brakes and suspension next month and then its on to interior where looks matters.
Do any of you guys do stuff like paint all your bolt heads the same color?
Im even having trouble with under the truck/hood stuff because I cant decide if I want to powder coat or just black paint or what... Or black for all the hangers and accesories and some other color for other things.
its all overwhelming.
Especially when you browse this site and see the 1000 different ways you could take it.
I fear I'm going to steal a bit from here and there and end up with a mishmash of crapola. I dont have an eye for art. I can see when something looks good to me but not how to get there hehe.
