Like the other guys, I removed the vents and used my hands, shop vac, screwdrivers, etc. to get all the big pieces out and then flushed that area with some water to clean up the rest. Once you unclog everything there is a drain at the bottom of the outer edge of the vent to flush the grime away.

After that I ran the garden hose into the cowl from above (after cleaning that out too) and flushed the whole works really good with lots of water to make sure everything was clean and any water could drain.

All the junk that fills those areas up comes in through the cowl below the windshield so if you haven't already put a screen in place under there to keep the debris out you might want to consider it. It helps to keep the big pieces out.
