peel n seal will work to dampen your sheet metal, but it is not butyl based, it's bitumen, trust me, i'm a roofer & have used all these products. and it will fall off in hot or cold weather. we have used it as a base sheet on metal roof curbs & come back in the morning & it's laying on the roof. because i can get it for less than cost, i seriously debated using it, but seeing how it performs (for years), i went with fatmat extreme instead. people will chime in about it, & it will work (to a degree), just dont expect it to stay stuck really well on vertical or overhead surfaces
