Controls spring oscillations, like a shock absorber. Your spring rate sounds high for a hyd flat tappet. Comp shows single spring w/dampner to be 105/273
330 open would probably be for a dual spring, one with inner round spring.
If you have the real dual spring at 330 I would remove inner spring, if it's single spring with dampner at 273 I would leave it as is to break in.
330 for a street hyd lifter sounds too high to me.
