I have never heard of anyone adding to the tube to stretch a driveshaft. Lengthening a driveshaft should always be done with replacing the entire tube. I agree with Jon on finding a driveshaft that is too long and having it shortened. It doesn't have to be from a GM either, As long as it has the right size yokes on it and is long enough. Do you already have the slip yoke for the back of the NV3500? There are 2 different ones, depending on the original drivesaft.
