No pedal pressing required, not that it's a bad idea, but no physical need.
Simple corrosion on the terminals can stop a truck that started yesterday. Disconnect and clean both ends of the wires.
Please be safe about it, batteries can be dangerous. Always disconnect the ground first and re-connect it last.
