Be sure you have power at the positive cable on the solenoid at the starter. I had something like this happen on my 73. On the firewall usually above the distributor, there is a junction block. It is some type of fuse. You will see one or two bigger wires going to it. Sometimes, a smaller wire too. I think this powers up the fuse box. Be sure you have power on both sides of the block on the firewall. If not jump them. Another test if you have power at the places I mentioned is this. Be sure the truck will not leap ahead or roll. Turn the key on to run...crawl under and get to the starter...with a screwdriver, jump the big positive cable to the small signal wire. This should bypass the safety and it should crank.
