I can see two ways to do it. One is to run an electric fuel pump; the other is to install a fuel solenoid. It would definitely work. However, if you have a carburetor, there might be enough fuel in the bowl to get the truck just far enough to cause a problem before the lack fuel delivery shuts it down.
