My ignition coil is an MSD thats about a year old.
There was a little corrosion under the distributor cap where the rotor makes contact with the 8 metal sleeves under the cap.
Maybe I need to look into the pickup coil in the distributor.

It could fry within a mile, but even the cheapest will probably last longer than that.
Other factors that can cause a module to die prematurely are a bad/going bad coil, and a bad pickup coil in the distributor can fry them as well.
