Turning them out in front of the rear wheels will create a lot of cab noise, and dumping them under the truck befor axle usually creates a lot of drone at highway speeds. I am a fan of going straight out the rear, or at the minimum turned out after the axle (although I'm not a huge fan of that look).

I had flowmasters on my '69, and it wasn't bad at all in the cab.
