Virginia also allows the use of YOM plates, one of three options for antique owners. There is a one time fee of $50.00 good for as long as you own the vehicle regardless of the type of plate you choose. Vehicles using "antique plates" are restricted to "hobbyist" use and can not be used for general transportation. Virginia issued annual tags and up 1973 with few exceptions they were white background with black letters one year and reversed the next. 1973 saw the introduction of the current white with blue tags using month and year decals thus 1972 vehicles will be the last to be able to use YOM.
