I tried vinegar and it really does work. Takes a bit of time but is really cheap and seems to work better than naval jelly. I found it for a dollar a gallon. Can't beat that! Have also used hot sauce for dipping my small carb parts in and it must be the vinegar in it but it works in a pinch. And I got it from the taco joint for free!
