Not exactly the same situation but applicable situation: i had a 93 k2500 with a bent up stock bumper. I found a "ranch hand" pipe rear bumper on the local c list for $50(!). It came with no recieiver hitch provision. I already had a class 4 receiver hitch on the truck. I would not have been able to use it with the ranch hand because it hung too low and far out. I welded up an extension that went into the receiver and bolted to two of the three ball mount holes in the bumper using grade 8 1/2" bolts nuts and lock washers. One end was 2" od other end was 2" id. It was therefore bolted to the frame and bumper.
