Both have their pro's and con's. 2004r's fit in smaller spaces and 700r4's are a larger case. 700r4's are more plentiful, but if you get a MD8 case you shouldn't have any issues. I have used 700r4's in several projects over the years, starting with the hydro lock up system and then recently the electronic, vacuum switch, brake switch etc set ups along with adding corvette servo's and everything that trans adapt sold for the internals. The last 2 have been bone stock MD8 cased 700r4's with TCI 4 gear lock up harness and large external coolers. No problems and I beat them with greater loads than I should. Mine don't take the horsepower 200 ish from the built inline and 300ish from previous V8's and the current one, but I tow a lot with them and have no issues once I stopped modifying the internals and just stuck with the improved MD8 case newer ones.
