I tried welding one. Not cooperative in the least. Most likely pot metal. Maybe low temp soldering could work.
I was thinking about making an insert to slip into the handle base that could be screwed in place from the side where the metal is thicker but haven't messed around with it yet. I have a good sized collection of broken handle bodies to play with.
