As Daze57 and Bob aka Drainsportgarage said it doesn't come off and as Daze57 suggested the simple way to take it off is use a small hose clamp and squeeze the ends in so they slip through the hole in the backing plate. I don't know of any replacement for that end and don't know if you could salvage one off another cable and put it on yours if yours is damaged.
