Aesthetics and cool factor.
Any popular hot rod has a more common starting factor and a less common one. Short beds are preferred with trucks. I like that the bed is more proportionate to the cab and has a more sporty look while I feel like the long bed has more of a utilitarian look to it. Nothing wrong with choices, opinions and options. I've seen a few long beds that looked mean in their own right.
