If it is a mechanical rod the fix would be to put the trans in neutral, shifter at neutral and see how much longer or shorted it needs to be. Add or shorten enough to tread the rod for a threaded rod end, maybe using a heavy turn buckle with reverse threads so turning oneway lengthens, other shortens.
