You can remove it from the carb and ground out the side of it on the metal surrounding the cap and batt pos to the terminal and watch it "slowly" move, it is extremely slow but will move almost a 1/4 of a turn total. Mark it first to see how much it moves first, hard to watch by eye actually, if it doesn't move at all when hooked up cold after about 30 seconds or so then the element is burnt out so replace it. They adjust tension wise on the carb counter clock wise, edelbrock is the opposite.
