does your truck have a/c? I have heard that it's a bigger job if so, but I did this on my non-a/c '85, and it wasn't that bad. Most of the work was from the engine bay. I used a Haynes manual as my guide, and I had mine apart and back together in a couple hours.
In my case, the door seems to move maybe 40-45 degrees from stop to stop, so not real far, but I would say it is more than the 1/2" you mentioned.
