Ok so day 2.

I think you guys are right and I was scrubbing a little too hard. I was trying to get all the grey oxidized paint off but didn't know my own strength. The original paint underneath was so pretty (but thin). Today I was a little more delicate and was mindful of the corners. There are still places, mostly in the back half and not pictured, where the paint just gave up and came off with no effort.

I also tried a number of other things including rubbing compound and using a rag instead of scothbright pad. None seemed to work well/better.

I still like the way it looks and wonder is a clear coat will preserve it for at least a while.
