All right Hafton, I can see you're a pervert when it comes to fixing stuff. That's okay though, you're not alone. I too am an obsessive pervert when it comes to improving simple stuff.
Here's what I would do: You can buy a female threaded rod end from Summit. Cut the end off of the rod and then cut some thread on the rod. Finally, screw the Summit rod end on. Then hold the rod end to the z-bar with a Grade 8 bolt and locknut.
Congrats, you now have a bearing clutch linkage. Total cost under 10 bucks.
