My original 1960 GMC wheels also came with those 4 bumps. They indeed were for the 1956 passenger car wheel covers. Those and Corvette wheel covers did not use conventional gripper fingers. Instead they had a bead around the rim of the attachment flange that snapped into those bumps. Presumably the 56 Chevy wheel covers were provided as they were the last 15inch passenger car covers produced before the switch to 14" wheels.

I don't show a listing for full wheel covers in the 1960 Chevy Truck Accessories Price Schedule, but I have a few vintage photos with them installed on 60-61 trucks. Not sure if these were ever officially offered for truck applications, or if all the rims were punched with the 4 bumps in case they ended up being assembled for a Corvette application.

Your wheel may be a 1961, as I think that might be the first year Chevy eliminated the hub cap clips.
