Shimming Alternator

I recently installed an internally regulated alternator and notice a whistling sound at idle, slightly metallic almost. After some inspeciton, I beleive it is coming from the pulleys/belt being SLIGHTLY misaligned. I will post some pictures for you all to make sure, but would this cause a whistling/whining sound?

My question is this: Can i shim or use washers to make the alternator come forward 1/8th-1/4 of an inch? Is this safe to do, and if so where would i shim or put washers? The best I can describe without pictures ATM is it looks like this (only diagonally of course)
