I wouldn't go much more than 3" inro the frame. Unless you want to step the frame. up into the bed. You want to save enough metal on the sides of the frame to weld or bolt some plate too. My cpp notch is 3" deep. I chose to go that route rather than build my own simply because our frame is "S" curved right there and I thought the time saved was worth paying a lil more than material cost. Not that I'm right that's just what I chose being a passionate novice. Lol since your bagging tho,I would maybe consider stepping the frame. I am static and really only needed an extra inch just to be safe.
