Re: Painting new headers
i used POR 20 exhaust paint on my entire exhaust system. the por 20 is an aluminum color, they also have it in black (did our quad mufflers with it), & they have a cast iron gray color too. the por 20 i did 3 yrs ago, & i love/hate it. it will NOT burn off or go brown, from my header flanges to my tips is still bright aluminum with NO browning or burning. i just wish it was even half as durable as their por 15 paint. my truck is a 4by that goes off road, & por 20 will not take any abuse. every time i come back from off-roading, there's rock chips all over it. every few months when they look bad, i just keep touching them up.
the black por exhaust paint on the other hand is awesome, our quad mufflers look just as good as the day i did them, with NO chipping (on atv mufflers no less!)
whatever paint you use, it's best to take your headers to bare metal. most heat paints cure & bond when the exhaust is hot, stock header paint is not good quality to be applying more paint too.
