Check with GMC Bubba, http://www.lindertech.com/bhrs/gm_6_dist_elec_conv.htm His shop rebuilds distributors and converts them to electronic using easy to find parts.
The Pertronix is a good unit if you have a good distributor to begin with. One of the selling points is that you can stick a set of points and a condenser in the truck kit bag and if the Pertronix acts up you can swap out the electronic piece for the points and condenser and get home.
The key is that your distributor has to be in good shape no matter what ignition setup you run as a conversion kit isn't going to heal up a worn out distributor.
