Cool gas story. Glad we don't have hurricanes here. Only you know your budget for a welder but wait it out a bit and spend a bit more on a Miller, Lincoln or Hobart. Spend your money once and it will last a lifetime. A few buddies have went the cheap route to only scrap it and buy a same unit but a name brand. No problems since. I spent the money on a Miller and have had no problems. Just my opinion.
