After the throttle shafts, the biggest issues I've found with remans is unmarked jets, springs, valves, and /or rods. Tuning a carb often means replacing the parts which meter the fuel. If you can't tell what parts are installed in the carb then you're at a guess as to where to go next. So instead of buying a couple of dollars worth of parts and replacing them once, you might have to buy a more expensive parts kit and take several guesses to get the right ones.
Then again if you can call the company you've bought the carb from and get the owner on the phone, he's likely to be able to provide answers right up front.
