If they do re-do the base plates, I don't see how they can sell them that cheap and make any money. I do a few older carbs like Holley 94's for people who want the genuine article and can pay. By the time I do all the disassembly, set up, machine and reassemble(throttle blades can be a bear) it runs into lots of time for me and machine. It's to the point where a company is making oversize throttle shafts for the old carbs like Holley 94's, 2GC's and maybe even WCFB's that cuts down on the machine and labor time but it's still an expensive proposition....and carb repair is a dying art.
