Depends mostly on whether you have a short or long bed. I mostly intended these to be used toward the front, on the bed mount risers, which would be 4 for the short, and 6 for the long. I was also able to fit a pair in the frame rails for the cross sill just behind the wheel well, but I'm not sure if it is an absolute necessary for locating the bed better. They do help square up the bed nice and tight, but the main focus with these is to prevent the bed from shifting forward and leaving dimples in the back of the cab from the front panel bolts.
Selling them by the pair allows each person to order as needed depending on short/long beds or even just one pair to start and then add more later.
