I removed mine to replace the parking brake warning switch, and it is a PITA.
As I recall, there are two (or maybe 3) bolts holding the pedal assembly to the firewall. Unscrew the bolts from the firewall side and the pedal assembly drops down, then you can disconnect the cable and wiring harness from the inside of the cab and remove the assembly. You will have to wiggle the pedal assembly free from the firewall because it is a tight fit in the holes. There are studs attached to the pedal assembly which protrude through the firewall. Removal is easier than reinstall.

I think my Haynes manual has instructions. Maybe someone can post a page from a service manual.
