LS1Nova71 knows way more about the PCM and wiring than I do, I would take his word for it if I were you.
I made an assumption that GM wouldn't add code for transmissions they knew they would never use in the car, but apparently I was wrong.
The good news is you won't have to buy a TCU because they are expensive.
Now you can focus on finding a low mileage 4L80E, Get R Dun!
