I'm using the stock frame under my '49. Its boxed but still runs stock front & rear suspension.
I installed a built 327, m21 4 speed and a 12 bolt rear axle with 3:73 gears about 40 years ago. It's held up well and it gets driven hard. Does it drive and handle like a new truck ?
No way. But I do enjoy driving it.
If I were to change the chassis & suspension I would probably go with a Jim Meyer or some other custom built system
