Re: exterior mirror help

I just installed a mirror on the passenger side of my rusty 65' fleeter. After taking dubious measurements from the drivers door I started drilling the door only to find a plate backing the door skin. I took off the side panel inside and saw that there are predrilled holes in that plate backing but they are at a different location than the drivers door by about a quarter inch. I assume it is for mirror angle to the driver's point of view and that there must be a template to use to drill them because you can't drill them from the inside. At any rate, it is next to impossible to get a nut up there to screw the mirror bracket into. I decided to drill through the backing plate with a hair smaller drill and use it as the nut for the screws to screw into to secure the mirror. I know its a bit of a jerry-rig but it worked pretty good with stock screws and I didn't care since the door is half rusted out anyway. good luck!
