My suburban has a solenoid issue, a new starter would fix it but I'm going a cheaper route. If it generates excessive heat by actuating for too long it won't engage the starter until it cools. I'm installing a ford solenoid on the frame rail and bypassing the GM one on the starter. $20 for a solenoid is cheaper than $100 for a new starter.

I had heat soak issues. The remote solenoid solved my problems. I also decided to install a high performance mini starter. But I will say - the remote solenoid was the solution in my case. I have a 454, GM manifolds (no headers)....
