I used pop rivets on mine with no problems. The pop rivet gun I used came from Harbor Freight and has interchangeable dies for different size rivets. The dies were narrow enough to get into the channel with the pop rivets. The only choice that I made was to leave the "pivot rivet" alone and instead remove the two rivets that hold that bracket to the frame. The "pivot rivet" is the one that I think gives most folks a problem. See the write up that Mister C references for this issue.

PS Your 1960 vents are likely to be different from the pictures that these folks are using for a 1964-1966.
