To clean them, I use the 0000 grit steelwool on the areas I can reach and then use a soft bristle toothbrush and Barkeeper's Friend (which is a non abrasive cleanser) to get to the areas that you can't reach w/the steelwool.
Sprinkle the cleanser on a dry surface, wet the brush, dip the brush in the dry cleanser and start to scrub the emblem.

I've had good results using nail polish on the white/red/black parts of the emblems.
