The VIn won't tell you anythign about gearing.
If the option sheet is still in the glove box, then look for an option stating gearing. If there is no option listed, then it was originally equipped with the aformentioned 4.56 gears.
meathead and jim are both correct in that no one tons were 4X4's from GM, only after production conversions. Also, that one pictured is not an after production conversion being that it only has an 8 foot bed, the one tons all had the 133 or longer wheelbase dictating a 9 foot step bed, or a 8 1/2 foot fleet bed. no pick up bed came on anything longer than the 133 inch wheel base.
