Lockdoc, thank you for the information. I went ahead and bought a new face plate, levers, cables and heater switch as mine seems to be pretty shot anyway. I will check those other things you suggested and hopefully have it all fixed soon.

Loving this Suburban so far. I had a 66 GMC Suburban for awhile which I thoroughly enjoyed but man, I'm very pleased with having power steering, power brakes and a tried and true 350 v8 under the hood. I can't wait to restore/modify this burb as time and money allow.
