Chevy changed the valves at the same time they started induction hardening the exhaust seats - '72-'73. The older valves have a rounded dish shaped indentation in the end. The later style have a more a flat indentation with a sharp lip. I had a whole box of used valves to give cash strapped customers when they changed over.
