I took a socket the same size as the outside diameter of the tube and cut part of it away to clear the part of the upper housing that sticks out around the tube and then tap it out, if that makes sense to you. Sometimes the tubes are loose enough you can tap on the bottom shift lever that sticks out, but most of the time you will end up bending it down and you have to straighten it back up.
