Mine get the same way. The channel fuzzy gets worn and hard. I suppose some build-up on the aluminum along with grit in channel. I've never replaced the channel guide material. Some sort of lube, not oil but something that will soften and moisten the rubber would help. You might could spread the channel a skosh, but be careful so you don't end up with a rattling window. Mine got so tight the channel guide pulled out and it rattled something fierce. I still have it, but I pulled it and replace the whole deal with a better one I had
