Same bore as the 283 and the same stroke as the 327. My understanding is the bump was needed to keep up with the demands of more power accessories along with higher speeds.
The 307 got a bad rap from a lot of folks as being weak. It's as strong as any sbc but when new only came in 2 barrel versions and this era was plagued with "soft" camshafts. The lobes wore quickly and soon a 2 barrel motor with a very low lift cam couldn't haul those barges around too swiftly.
I was given a low mile example and made a few adjustments to it (262 cam, aluminum intake/4 barrel and 1.94 heads) and it now powers my hot rod '39 pickup. Better engines than 305s with similar reputations..
