I am subscribing to this thread. My 402 is also making a deep ticking noise. You can only hear it when the hood is up (too quiet otherwise. The motor runs great and idles smooth. I have only had it for a couple of weeks so I have not started changing out parts to diagnose but am interested in possible causes.
