NO need to upgrade or replace VERY good rear as far as rear axles go (DANA 60) .....just my have problem finding a disc set-up for it.... also i would say it is ORIGINAL to the frame as i stated MOST likely a GMC 65 to 70 ... check this out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dana_60
