Chevyman, do you have a non-contact, point and shoot thermometer? If so, let's test Titomars idea. If you drive for a bit, then stop and check the hub temperature. If he's right and the grease is liquefying, you definitely don't want to touch the hub with your hand.

I agree that it can't be gear oil making its way out that far.
