Re: Which grade oil should I use for my motor?

The cam in that old six has very low lift and "slow" ramps. Combined with low pressure springs, there's no way you have to worry about flattening a lobe.

Sorry if I offend anyone, but I just don't get these ZDDP additives. You'd think we were talking about adding hotter salsa to a taco! Lubrication engineers and chemists spend a lot of time and money developing additive packages for their oils, and we're supposed to just dump in some ZDDP Plus and assume it blends well with any and all oils? Seriously?

If your flat tappet cam lobe design and valve spring pressure dictate higher levels of ZDDP, then use an oil that has what you need as part of the additive package, like Driven Hot Rod oil. It ain't cheap oil, but it's cheap insurance. http://www.drivenracingoil.com/news/...ge-protection/

Good advice above from Chris at Shell, IMO. At least for a OE flat tappet cam and valve springs.
