I've been using Valvoline VR1 in my '64 VW. It has a fairly aggressive cam with fast ramps. Each cam lobe has two lifters per lobe, so there's twice as much wear and only half of the time for oil spray to build up on the lobe (splash lubricated). The engine was broken in using Brad Penn oil, then switched to VR1 at approximately 5,000 miles. I swapped the cam at 27,000 miles and the lifters and cam lobes looked great.
